What it can look like

Postpartum. Bringing home a baby can be joyful and also exhausting, lonely or frightening. Some women feel sad, anxious, irritable or "not like themselves," or have worrying thoughts they're afraid to say out loud. Others are coping with a difficult birth. These feelings are common, and you don't have to sort through them alone.

Pregnancy loss. Miscarriage, stillbirth and other pregnancy losses are real losses, even when the people around you don't know or don't know what to say. Counseling gives you room to grieve in your own way (see also Grief Counseling).

Fertility. Trying to conceive, waiting, treatments and disappointments can be draining and lonely, and can strain a marriage. Counseling offers a private place for the hope, worry and frustration that come with it.

Life transitions. Marriage, a new baby, children growing up and leaving home, a move, a career change, divorce, caring for aging parents, or a loss can all shake up your sense of who you are and where you fit.

Self-esteem. A harsh inner critic, constant comparison, trouble saying no, or a feeling that you're never quite enough can quietly shape every part of life.

Marriage. Feeling unheard, disconnected or stuck in the same arguments, or adjusting to the changes marriage brings. Lisa can meet with you on your own, or with you and your spouse together (see Family Relationships & Couples).

How Lisa helps

Lisa begins by listening: what's going on now, what led up to it, and what you'd like to feel or do differently. The work is then shaped around you and may include:

  • Making sense of what you're feeling so it feels less confusing and less lonely.

  • Practical coping tools and CBT for stress, anxiety and overwhelm (see Anxiety Counseling).

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) to meet the critical or overworked "parts" of you with more compassion.

  • Guided meditations for inner child work, a gentle way to connect with younger parts of you, which some women find helpful for self-esteem.

  • Trauma-informed care. When a difficult birth, a pregnancy loss or older painful experiences are part of the story, Lisa can draw on her trauma training, including EMDR and Brainspotting (see Trauma & PTSD Counseling).

  • Respect for your values. Women of all levels of observance are welcome (see Orthodox Jewish Therapy).

What sessions are like

  • By secure video, from a private space you choose. That can be easier to fit in around a new baby, children or work.

  • A first session about what's bringing you in and what you hope will change.

  • Your pace, your priorities. You decide what to focus on.

  • No judgment. You can say the things you haven't said to anyone else.
