What family and relationship struggles can look like
Every family is different, but people often come in because of things like:
-
The same argument happening again and again, with no resolution
-
Feeling distant, lonely or misunderstood in a marriage
-
Stress after a big change: a new baby, a move, a job loss, an illness, children leaving home
-
Tension with parents, in-laws, siblings or adult children
-
Different expectations about money, religion, roles or parenting
-
Hurt or broken trust that's hard to talk about
-
A family member's addiction or mental health struggle affecting everyone
Sometimes both people in a couple want help. Sometimes only one person is ready, or a relative isn't willing or able to come. Either way, there is something you can work on.
How Lisa helps
Couples sessions together. Lisa meets with both partners by secure video. The focus is on slowing conversations down, helping each person feel heard, understanding the patterns you get stuck in, and practicing new ways to talk about hard things. Lisa doesn't take sides; the relationship is the focus. She is trained in Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO), a couples approach based on Internal Family Systems that helps each partner understand the reactions that show up in hard moments, so conversations can feel less like a battle.
Individual sessions about family relationships. You can also come on your own to work on a relationship with a spouse, parent, in-law, sibling or adult child. Together you can look at what keeps happening, how it affects you, what's in your control, and how to set boundaries or approach a hard conversation.
Lisa's training in Internal Family Systems (IFS) can help each person understand the protective reactions, like shutting down, criticizing or people-pleasing, that show up when things get tense. CBT tools can help with practical communication skills, and guided meditations for inner child work can help when old family hurts still feel close to the surface. When older hurts or painful experiences are part of the picture, her trauma training (see Trauma & PTSD Counseling) can be woven in. Families of all levels of observance are welcome (see Orthodox Jewish Therapy).
What sessions are like
-

-
For young adults and adults. Lisa sees young adults and adults, individually or as couples. She doesn't see children or teens.
-
A first session to hear what's bringing you in and what each person hopes will change.
-
Structure without a script. Lisa helps keep conversations from spiraling and makes sure there's room for everyone.
-
Your goals, your pace. Some people come for a specific issue; others want ongoing support.
